The University of Mauritius was officially established by the University of Mauritius Ordinance in December 1965. Then existing School of Agriculture was incorporated in the UoM. In order to defined the objects, powers, functions and structure of the university, in the year of 1971, ‘University of Mauritius Act’ was undertaken. The 24th March of 1972 is a historical day on which the UoM was inaugurated by Her Majesty Queen Elizabet.. more

The University of Mauritius was officially established by the University of Mauritius Ordinance in December 1965. Then existing School of Agriculture was incorporated in the UoM. The 24th March of 1972 is a historical day on which the UoM was inaugurated by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. For the inaugural ceremony,  His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh accompanied Her Majesty. Thus the mission commenced for the UoM to provide quality education to students and promote knowledge creation and dissemination through research and innovative teaching while responding to the developmental needs of the country and the global community.

The university provides education in 3 distinct manner: Undergraduate, Post-graduate, and Post-graduate with research. The following faculties are to be seen here: Agriculture, Engineering, Law & Management, Ocean studies, Science, Social studies & Humanities, Information Communication & Digital Technologies. There is a chance for both the part-time and full-time under-graduation program and the applicant can choose between them only if the choice of faculty allows it to only if, again, certain requirements are met.
However, with the affiliation to certain other national and foreign facilities, the UoM provides world-class education and accommodation.

Requirements differ from one faculty to another, however, the following requirements are to be met in general for almost every faculty to enroll in the under-graduate program:

either (a) Credit in five other subjects (School Certificate), together with at least two passes at Advanced Level.. more

Note: (a) Students not possessing a recognized qualification in English Language should provide evidence of proficiency
in same, e.g. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (International English Language Testing
System), or other similar tests.
(b) International Students from 12 year-schooling systems may be required to sit for SAT (Scholastic Aptitude
Test)
