Morogoro is found in the eastern part of Tanzania, at the base of the Uluguru Mountains. It is the capital of the Morogoro Region, one of Tanzania’s 31 administrative regions. Morogoro is a town with over 300, 000 inhabitants, although the region itself has a population of 2 million inhabitants. Morogoro experiences a tropical wet and dry climate, with precipitation being the highest between the months of March and May. Average temperatures vary between 15 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius. The town is at the heart of Tanzania’s agriculture, being a centre of farming in the southern highlands. Tobacco grown in the region is consolidated in Morogoro before it is put on the market. The town is equally a hub for a lot of missionary work in the country.

Morogoro is home to the Amani Centre, a centre for the disabled that has helped over 3,000 people in surrounding villages. The town’s proximity to the Uluguru Mountains makes it an important stop for hiking trips. The indigenous Luguru tribe offers cultural tourism programmes around the mountains. Transportation within the city is handled by public transport buses commonly called “dala dala”. Several higher education institutions are located in Morogoro, giving the town a suitable environment for studies. The town is home to the Sokoine University of Agriculture, and the Mzumbe University is located a few kilometres away. Morogoro is represented in the Tanzanian Premier League by football club Mtibwa Sugar F.C.
