Programme Overview

The focus of this programme is ‘human beings in motion’. This is studied from the physiological, biomechanical, psychological, historical, philosophical, sociological and economic perspectives.

The programme covers the following areas: applied anatomy, applied biomechanics, motor learning, sport psychology, sport ethics, sport injuries, programme development, adapted movement programmes and the fitness industry. In addition you also take among others, Biochemistry and Physiology.

This degree programme leads to honours programmes in Biokinetics, Sport Science or Physiological Sciences

Admission Requirements

An average final mark of 65% in the National Senior Certificate or the school-leaving certificate from the Independent Examination Board (excluding Life Orientation);

– For degree programmes in the Physical and Mathematical Sciences, a final mark of 70% (6) for Mathematics; OR

– For degree programmes in the Biological Sciences when you take Mathematics (Bio) 124 and Physics (Bio) 134, 154, a final mark of 60% (5) for Mathematics; OR if you are planning to take Mathematics 114, 144 and Physics 114, 144, a final mark of 70% (6) for Mathematics;

– For degree programmes in the Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences, a final mark of 50% (4) for Physical Sciences;

– For degree programmes in the Mathematical Sciences when you choose Chemistry and/or Physics, a final mark of 50% (4) for Physical Sciences;

– A final mark of 50% (4) for Afrikaans or English (Home Language or First Additional Language); and

– A final mark of 50% (4) for one other designated university admission subject.

*South African students pay R54020 per year as tuition fees.
*Students from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) member countries, as well as Rwanda and Namibia, pay R60000 without an international tuition fee

The SADC member countries are Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
