The BSc. Medical Laboratory Sciences is a professional course under the umbrella of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB). KMLTTB was established by an Act of Parliament to regulate Medical Laboratory Sciences training and practice in Kenya. The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) BSc.
Medical Laboratory Sciences curriculum was developed in consultation with the KMLTTB guidelines specifying the minimum content of curricular for Bachelors programmes. The developed curriculum also took into consideration the comments and concerns of other stakeholders including current students and alumni as well as opinions from laboratory personnel from Kenyatta National Hospital and potential consumers of the programme.

Admission Requirements
1.1.1 The common regulations for all Bachelors degrees in the JKUAT shall apply.
1.1.2 The common regulations for admission requirements in all Bachelors degrees in the ITROMID shall apply.
1.1.3 The candidate must have a minimum KCSE mean grade of C+. In addition, a student must have either of the qualifications listed below:
1.1.3.1 Have the following combinations of cluster subjects at the minimum grades shown:

1.1.3.2 Have a minimum of 2 principal passes in science subjects in IGCE/GCE.
1.1.3.3 Have a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or any other relevant Diploma from an institution recognised by the University Senate, and registered with the KMLTTB.
1.1.3.4 Have a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Medical Laboratory Technology or any other relevant HND from an institution recognised by the University Senate, and registered with the KMLTTB.
1.1.3.5 Have any other qualifications accepted by the University Senate as equivalent to 1.1.3.1 to 1.1.3.4 above.
1.1.4 Credit Transfer System
1.1.4.1 Students who have successfully completed one or two years of a B.Sc. MLS level study in any institution recognized by the Senate may be allowed to transfer to the JKUAT B.Sc. Programme, and shall be considered for appropriate credits based on the years of study in the institution(s) they are transferring from.
1.1.5 Exemption
1.1.5.1 Applicants, who hold the qualifications 1.1.3.3 from a middle-level institution recognized by the JKUAT Senate, may at the discretion of Senate be admitted directly to the upgrading module.
1.1.5.2 Applicants, who hold the qualifications 1.1.3.4 from a middle-level institution recognised by the JKUAT Senate, may at the discretion of Senate be admitted directly into the upgrading module.
