Programme Overview

Objective and Description
The LL.M Degree Programme is intended to train law graduates and provide them with a deeper understanding of the law and other relevant legal skills that will enable students to pursue the cause of justice in respect of persons (natural and legal) who need legal assistance on various matters. At the end of the programme the graduates will be equipped with the skills necessary for a variety of careers in the legal profession.

Curriculum

Programme Structure:
The programme will be taught in full-time mode only which will comprise of 68 weeks, i.e., 18 months. There will be two teaching semesters and the third term will be devoted to the student producing a supervised dissertation. The teaching model is designed to give students more time to reflect on the content of their courses and to engage more effectively in private study. The structure allows for the spread of contact time for five hours per week comprised of three lecture hours and two seminar hours. The LL.M programme comprises three taught core courses and one taught optional course selected from a range of options available in the respective semester as well as a significant research component involving a Master’s dissertation ranging between 60–150 pages, excluding appendices. Currently, the faculty offers the following specialised LL.M programmes.

Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements
A candidate for admission to LL. M. Program in the Faculty of Law of the Mzumbe University shall hold at least a second class in the first degree in Law, or a lower class than that plus a postgraduate Diploma in Law awarded by Mzumbe University or any other University recognized by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).

Application to all postgraduate programmes must be accompanied by a non-refundable application fee of TZS. 30,000/= (for local applicants) or USD 30 (for international /foreign applicants). Applicants are required to indicate in their application forms the campus of preference, i.e. whether Main Campus or Dar es Salaam Campus College.

For those applying to study at the Main Campus,the application fee should be paid to Mzumbe University, BANK NAME: CRDB BANK;ACCOUNT NAME: MU INCOME ACCOUNT;ACCOUNT NUMBER: 01J1012013400;SWIFT CODE: CORUTZTZ.For those applying to study at the Dar es SalaamCampus College, the application fee should be paid to Mzumbe University, CRDB Bank, Account No. 01J1043012201.

All applications must be accompanied by certified copies of relevant academic certificates and transcripts.

Tuition Fees for Tanzanian and EAC Students: $1,935
Tuition Fees for International Students: $5,970

Tuition Fee per year for Tanzanian Students = 4,500,000 TZS
Tuition Fee per year for International Students = 13,880,400 TZS

**Students from Countries in the East African Community (EAC), pay the same amount as Tanzanian Students. EAC Countries include; Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Note:

– In the Tuition Fee per year is included; Registration, tuition, examination, and library services
– Fees may be paid in two equal instalments, an instalment being due at the beginning of each semester prior to registration
– Fees once paid are not refundable
– The University reserves the right to change fees at any time
– Direct student fees have been bench-marked against Government rates, but sponsors may vary them according to their policies
