Programme Overview

The MA in Journalism is based on three possible structures.
The programme is based on individual interaction between you and your lecturer, but attendance of two residential seminars in the first year of registration is compulsory. A thesis or research assignment must be done in one of the chosen elective modules.

Admission Requirements

For 879, 889 and 899: The Stellenbosch University BAHons in Journalism or a recognised Honours degree in Journalism, Media Studies or Communication, or other relevant Honours degree from another university.

Tuition Fees for South African Students: $1,324
Tuition Fees for International Students: $2,714

*Students from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) member countries, as well as Rwanda and Namibia, pay R45000 without an international tuition fee

The SADC member countries are Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

*Students from Africa (Non-SADC) pay R45000.
*Students from the rest of the World (outside of Africa) pay R45000 plus international tuition fees of R25350
