Rationale of the Programme
This programme of Bachelor of Science in Energy and Environment Technology is designed to meet the challenges and demands affecting Kenya’s labour market as dictated by both local and international demands. The program is also designed to combat shortage of professionally trained teachers in this country, Africa region and the world at large.
Why study the Programme
The curriculum is designed to provide interdisciplinary approaches for training education professionals and scientists who need to work competitively in all fields and areas in the energy and environment sector of this country and beyond.
Target Groups
The programme shall provide Bachelor of Science of Energy and Environmental Technology graduates with real world situations full of various techniques of teaching, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and experiences that prepare them to meet challenges in the fields of energy and environment
Programme Objectives
Upon successful completion of the prescribed course of study, the Bachelor of energy and environmental technology, graduates will have acquired knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to:
The curriculum for the degree programme shall extend over a period of not less than five academic years of study.
Entry Requirements
Candidates shall be eligible for admission into the Bachelor of Science in Medical Engineering (BME) degree of Mount Kenya University in the following categories:
Minimum Entry Requirements for a Bachelor’s Degree.
Candidates shall be eligible for admission into the Bachelor of Science Energy and Environmental Technology (BEET) degree of Mount Kenya University in the following categories:
i. The University and Faculty common regulations shall apply.
ii. The candidate must have passed the K.C.S.E.
In addition , a candidate in alternative “A” having any one of the following subjects will have an added advantage while those in alternative “B” must have a minimum of grade C+ in any one of the following:
iii. Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or the A-level equivalent should satisfy all the requirements below:
iv. Higher Diploma holders: A candidate holding a Higher Diploma from Kenya National Examination Council in relevant area or its equivalent as shall be determined by university senate, shall be admitted into the third year of study.
v. Diploma applicants: A candidate must be holders of MKU diploma in engineering with at least a credit pass in the relevant discipline or its equivalent as shall be determined by university senate. Diploma holders will normally be admitted into the second year of study.
vi. A holder of other qualifications recognized by the Senate as equivalent to i, to iv above.
Application Guidelines:
**Application forms can be downloaded from www.mku.ac.ke or collected from the school campuses/ marketing centres. Duly filled application forms should be addressed to the Registrar – Academic Administration.
The following Documents should be made available:
– Copies of all academic certificates including secondary school certificates, Bachelors, Diplomas & Certificate level transcripts and certificates.
– One (1) recent passport size photograph (write your name on reverse side)
– Copy of national I.D/Passport.
Application fee is as follows:
– a) Kshs 1000 for Certificate, Diploma and under- graduate programs for the East African applicants. USD 50 for the Non-East African Applicants.
– Kshs 2000 for Postgraduate programmes for East African Applicants. USD 100 for Non-East African Applicants.
NOTE:
Application for admission does not guarantee admission into the University for course applied for; this will be subject to fulfilment of all requirements and class size as approved by the University Senate.

Tuition Fees for Kenyan Students = Kshs. 109,100
Tuition Fees for International Students = Kshs 130,920
Students from Countries in the East African Community (EAC), pay the same amount as Kenyan Students. The six countries in the East African Community include; Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
NOTE:
– All international students (Non East African) are to pay additional (statutory fee, quality assurance & tuition fee) of 20% above the normal fee.
– The university fees payment can also be done in easy instalments within the semester. The instalments are as follows: 30% upon registration, 30%- second instalment, 20%-third instalment 20% – fourth instalment.
