Programme Overview

Art and Design Subject (Applied Arts/Art and Crafts/Creative Arts and Design. etc.) is any activity or product made by humans in a visual form for communicative purposes, expressing ideas and emotions.

Fine Art is art developed primarily for aesthetics or beauty, distinguishing it from Applied Art that also has to serve some practical function, such as most metalwork, hand crafts and the like.

In research Arts and Design communities have begun to place greater emphasis on the need to professionalize, systematize and better articulate its distinctive research activities, capabilities, typologies and processes across a very wide range of disciplines in sciences and arts.

Bachelor of Art and Design with Education
This is a three-year program and is offered in conjunction with the faculty of Education. The first year is a foundation program for all degree students and all courses are compulsory. In the second year, the student chooses three electives as follows: with at least one from  Group I and Group II Electives. They continue with the selected courses in the second semester. Painting is compulsory in year one and two. (For education units see faculty of Education)

Bachelor of Art and Design
Art and Design is offered as a Double-Teaching Subject. Students must not register for another teaching subject in another faculty or School. Art and Design double main has the following specialization  options:
(a) Visual Communications Design
(b)   Fashion Design
(c)   Interior Design
(d)  Product Design

Students choose one option of specialization with a pre-selected set of electives. The core courses are common to all. The specializations above are options students have to choose from and follow that from year one up to year three(final year).

In the second year, industrial training is done and in the third year, a student carries out a major work and exhibits his or her final works.

Admission Requirements

Students must have grade „A‟ or „B‟ or „C‟ and grade „D‟ in Art from A Level or its equivalent. A student    must have passed English, Students who have done Technical Drawing and Computer Graphic   programs with Art are an added advantage.

Prerequisites for entry art and design:
A student must have got grade „A‟, „B‟, „C‟, „D‟ in ART and First Class, Second Upper and a minimum second class for Diploma students.

Admission Requirements 

Two (2) entry points are available for persons wishing to enter the Bachelor of Education Art and Design programme:

Holders of the Advanced (A) Level Certificate 

In order to be eligible for direct entry into the programme, a candidate must have:
a)      Sat and passed the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination or its equivalent and obtained a certificate in it with passes in at least four subjects taken at the same sitting.
b)      Sat and passed the Uganda Advanced Level School certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent with at least two (2) principal passes in Art subject and any pass in Arts or Sciences subject , and at least one (1) subsidiary pass in Technical Drawing or English/Kiswahili language or General Paper
Holders of School Certificate Graded in Percentages and Average Points:  
In order to be eligible for direct entry into the programme, a candidate whose final high school marks are graded in percentages and average point systems such as in Sudan, The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda and Burundi must have their grades first equated or standardized by UNEB before seeking KIU admission.

All other foreign qualifications are considered according to faculty requirements.

Kampala International University admits 3 times in a year; in December/January, March/April and August/September.

Step 1: Pick-up an application form from the Admissions office at any of our Campuses below:
– Admission office at Main Campus in Kansanga, Kampala.
– Western Campus in Bushenyi
– For international applicants in Kenya and Tanzania, visit our offices in Nairobi and Tanzania.
– For other countries, visit the KIU Liaison Offices.
– Alternatively, download an application form from KIU website: Download It Here which can be filled and sent to admissions@kiu.ac.ug

NOTE: Click on the link to complete the online application: https://admissions.kiu.ac.ug  (a scanned copy of the admission letter will be sent to your email, and once the application has been approved, the original copy will be collected from our Main campus in Kansanga (Admissions Office-Online Desk)

The application fee is 50,000Ug.shs for both Ugandans and International students (non-Ugandans). For online applicants, the application fee is paid to the Finance Office when you report collecting the original admission.

Step 2: Complete the application forms clearly and enclose or attach the following:
– 3 photocopies of each ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level Secondary school result slips or equivalent [Diploma and Bachelor Degree] and three certified copies of transcripts of Bachelor and Master Degrees [postgraduate degrees].
– A photocopy of a receipt for payment for the application form.
– 3 recent passport size photographs.
– Photocopies of Birth Certificate/ National ID/ Passport
