Taking into consideration that Medicine is a caring humanitarian profession, the MD curriculum has been designed in such manner that a graduate physician would demonstrate problem-solving capacity (professional reasoning), associated with clearly identifiable professional attitudes, combined with a range of psychomotor abilities (professional skills) and carry with him/her an integrated information base (professional knowledge).
Objectives of the MD Curriculum
The objectives of the College include among others:
– To produce medical graduates equipped with the highest possible standard of practical and intellectual skills well suited to the needs of present and future Tanzania society.
– To produce medical graduates who are motivated to adapt to rapid changes in the medical practice brought about by new technology and to cope with ever-expanding research and vast literature.
– To train graduates who can show understanding of the ethical basis of medical practice and be able to identify social-cultural, psychological and economic factors that influence the health of the individual, family, and community.
– To train graduates who can show the ability to communicate with individuals, families and the community. As a member of the health team, the graduate should be able to establish interprofessional and inter-sectoral relations to achieve prescribed goals.
– A graduate of the College should be sensitive and responsive to community health needs by being able to plan, organize, coordinate and evaluate the health needs of individuals, families and the community as well as being capable of implementing primary health care strategy for the community.
– Giving high priority in training general practitioners who are desperately needed by society.
Since medical education is a life long activity which calls for investing in personal time and resources, graduates should be capable of:
– Carry out self-evaluation.
– Self n directed learning.
– Updating one’s knowledge and medical practice.
Program expected learning outcomes
By the end of this programme students will be able to:
1. Identify, assess, plan and manage health problems of a patient
2. Practice the ethical basis of medical practice and be able to identify social-cultural, psychological and economic factors which influence the health of the individual, family and community.
3. To plan, organize, coordinate and evaluate the health needs of individuals, families and the community as well as being capable of implementing primary health care strategy for the community.
4. Communicate with individuals, families and the community. As a member of the health team, the graduate should be able to establish interprofessional and inter-sectoral relations in order to achieve prescribed goals.
5. Carry out self-evaluation Self-directed learning, updating ones knowledge and medical practice.
6. Demonstrate problem-solving capacity (professional reasoning), associated with clearly identifiable professional attitudes, combined with a range of psychomotor abilities (professional skills) and carry with him/her an integrated information base (professional knowledge).
7. Writing Research proposals and carry our meaningful research activities.
8. Demonstrate competence in the teaching, planning and evaluation of health programmes

Course Duration
This program is five years long. Upon successful completion of the five years of training, a degree of Doctor of Medicine of the Tumaini University Makumira will be conferred. Upon completion of the five years, the graduate is expected to undertake an additional sixth year of apprenticeship in an approved institution before being allowed to practice independently

Foreign students
All applicants holding foreign qualifications must have their qualifications validated and equated by the respective regulatory bodies before submitting their applications for admission as follows
I. The National Examination Council of Tanzania in respect of certificates secondary education and teaching education; and
II. The National Council for Technical Education with respect to NTA level 6 qualification.

– Fees paid will not be refunded if the student leaves or withdraws or leaves the college without permission
