Why study the Master of Philosophy in Computer and Information Science?
The IIE Master of Philosophy in Computer and Information Sciences is a 100 percent research programme. A research candidate is required to undertake a programme of supervised research within the faculty resulting in the completion of a major thesis.

The research should contribute to the discipline by applying, critiquing, analysing or interpreting knowledge in ways that facilitate pathways for further learning following an independent investigation of a student-formulated research problem.

Students acquire research skills appropriate to their discipline, gain increased understanding of the fundamentals of conceptual, methodological and implementation issues of IT-related research, and will conduct research in a selected area using the concepts and principles learned, which culminates in the completion of a master’s thesis.

Supervisors are available in most areas of the information systems domain including both technical and non-technical areas.

Who is the degree aimed at?
The IIE Master of Philosophy in Computer and Information Sciences degree is aimed at post-graduate students who are interested in working in various IT related roles in the private and public sectors and conducting research. The aim is to produce competent IT professionals who, by understanding emerging technologies and trends, will contribute to the success and growth of the enterprise.

This degree also targets students who are interested in furthering their studies by pursuing PHD degrees.

What is this Degree’s accreditation status?
The IIE Master of Philosophy inComputer and Information Sciences degree is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and is registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as a 240-credit qualification on level 9(SAQA ID: 93588).

Admission Requirements

Minimum Admission Requirements
– An appropriate HEQSF Level 8 Honours degree with an overall qualification average of at least 65% is required.
– Students who do not meet the admission requirements may be eligible for admission via alternate means such as RPL. Please enquire at the campus for assistance.

International Students
– A SAQA NQF L8 Evaluation Certificate in an appropriate field. An overall qualification average of at least 65% is required.
– Students who do not meet the admission requirements may be eligible for admission via alternate means such as RPL. Please enquire at the campus for assistance.

To Apply for a place at the IIE MSA, follow the steps below:
STEP ONE: Select your programme, confirm that you meet the Local or International academic requirements and the English language requirements for the programme you’d like to study.
STEP TWO: You are required to upload a copy of your SA ID document or International Passport in order for your Application to be processed.
STEP THREE: Arrange for payment of your non-refundable R 400.00 application fee which you will be required to pay before your application is processed.
STEP FOUR: The final stage is to Apply Online

*International students registering for the first time at IIE MSA will be subject to an International Student Levy of R6,500 payable upon registration.
*Students are advised to pay their deposit on/before registration and the balance by the published payment due date. Alternative a payment arrangement can be applied for before the 28 February 2021.
