Introduction
The process of development includes creating sustainable improvements in the quality of life for all people starting from the individual in the family through the community. The overarching aim of development is lifting living standards of individuals, families, and communities.
This encompasses bettering people’s health, providing educational opportunities, providing opportunities for all people to participate in public life, helping to ensure a clean environment, promoting inter generational understanding, equity and much more. Development has many facets: Human resources, technological, economic, social, cultural and biological.
This requires an in depth understanding of the family as a unit, community dynamics and the society in which all these factors operate. This curriculum therefore offers an interdisciplinary approach in addressing development issues with an aim of producing an interdisciplinary oriented graduate who is competent in addressing issues related to both family and community development.
