Programme Overview

Rationale
Information Technology is changing continuously and rapidly. Globalization and liberalization are radically reshaping technologically, the Information Technology development practices.

The Bachelor of Business Information Technology programme shall provide an interdisciplinary approach for training Information Technology professionals who need working competency in all sectors of the economy.

Why study the programme
The programmes will therefore provide Business Information Technology graduates with a real world technological experience that will prepare them into the fields of Business and Information Technology for the economic growth and prosperity of the region and world at large.

Target Groups
O level, A level graduates and Diploma in Business information technology holders who wish to take a career  in Business and Information Technology sector as programmers, web developers, database designers and administrators, networking, Business managers, business developers among others.

Programme Objectives

  1. To provide students with a broad base knowledge of Business and Information Technology in order to manage the information in modern world.
  2. To provide an understanding of perspectives that form the context of Information Technology.
  3. To provide graduates with practical real world examples of equipment and services found in modern world.
  4. To provide  Business Information Technology graduates with knowledge skills to enable them manage modern businesses using information technology.
  5. To produce an  Information Technology professional whose qualification will be recognized in the world of modern world.

Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements
i)    KCSE or equivalent certificate with a minimum of C+ and grade C (plain) in both mathematics and English or similar grades in an equivalent examination approved by the University Senate.
or
ii)    KACE or equivalent Certificate with a minimum of the principal passes and O level Credit in Mathematics and English Language.
or
iii)     Diploma in relevant disciplines in the field of information technology from an institution recognized by the university senate.
or
iv)    A holder of KCSE certificate or equivalent with a mean aggregate of C(plain) with C (plain) in Mathematic and English  with a pre-university certificate from Mount Kenya University.

Exemptions and credit transfers
A maximum of 15 credit transfers for diploma holders of I.T. and related diplomas recognised by the Mount Kenya University senate for individual subjects where students have attained a credit and above

Application Fees for Kenyan and East African applicants: $9
Application Fees for International Students: $46

Application Guidelines:
**Application forms can be downloaded from www.mku.ac.ke or collected from the school campuses/ marketing centres. Duly filled application forms should be addressed to the Registrar – Academic Administration.

The following Documents should be made available:
– Copies of all academic certificates including secondary school certificates, Bachelors, Diplomas & Certificate level transcripts and certificates.
– One (1) recent passport size photograph (write your name on reverse side)
– Copy of national I.D/Passport.

Application fee is as follows:
– a) Kshs 1000 for Certificate, Diploma and under- graduate programs for the East African applicants. USD 50 for the Non-East African Applicants.
– Kshs 2000 for Postgraduate programmes for East African Applicants. USD 100 for Non-East African Applicants.

NOTE:
Application for admission does not guarantee admission into the University for course applied for; this will be subject to fulfilment of all requirements and class size as approved by the University Senate.

Tuition Fees for Kenyan and East African applicants: $919
Tuition Fees for International Students: $1,102

Tuition Fees for Kenyan Students = Kshs. 101,100
Tuition Fees for International Students = Kshs 121,320
Students from Countries in the East African  Community (EAC), pay the same amount as Kenyan Students. The six countries in the East African Community include; Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.

NOTE:
– All international students (Non East African) are to pay additional (statutory fee, quality assurance & tuition fee) of 20% above the normal fee.
– The university fees payment can also be done in easy instalments within the semester. The instalments are as follows: 30% upon registration, 30%- second instalment, 20%-third instalment 20% – fourth instalment.
